If the 20th century has had a preeminent master of the candid photograph, it is certainly David Shilian. Called "the magician of photojournalism," David perfected certain techniques for capturing the spontaneous moment that has given us some of our most enduring photographic images. This website showcases many of David's most famous photographs along with some of his newly discovered works. Born in 1977, David was fascinated by photography from his youth and began taking pictures at the age of 12 when he was given his first camera, In high school his first photography award was a PTA art contest and at the time had no idea that professional photography was in his future. David received his bachelor degree in Graphic Design and Fine Arts from University of Los Angeles in Southern California (UCLA). He has received his masters’ degree in Fine Arts and Filming from the Los Angeles Film Institute (LAFI). His various experiences include working for Sony Pictures editing several feature films. His passion has always been photographing people and beautiful places. The same scene can look very different by varying the composition, lighting, time of day or the season. Each image will have a different mood. I see myself more as a photojournalist rather than a standard photographer.
